Payments due October 2, 2011. Payment can be made in full ($350) at that time or in two payments of $187.50 with the first payment due on October 2, 2011 & the second payment due November 6, 2011.
$50 Registration Fee for the 2012 - 2013 Season is due March 11, 2012.
AOTHA Rules & Regulations
ADRIAN OVER THIRTY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RULES AND REGULATIONS
I. Player Registration/Status
- Each player must be registered in the A.O.T.H.A. (Adrian Over Thirty Hockey Association) before he can participate in the League as a regular full-time player. This is accomplished by:
- Veteran Status: any regular active player who submits a signed registration form and registration fee by the published due date.
- Substitute Status: any player who is activated from the registration fee and certificate.
- Each player must sign a Waiver of Liability, thereby releasing the A.O.T.H.A. of all responsibility for any injuries incurred by participation in the A.O.T.H.A. League.
- All accepted registrants will be placed on teams by a draft method according to skill rating.
- Each new player that registers in the A.O.T.H.A. must attain the age of thirty (30) on or before December 31 of the year he intends to participate. Exceptions on this rule must be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.
- At the time of registration, or upon request, each new participant must be able to present proof of age.
- Registration shall be held at a time and date set by A.O.T.H.A. Board of Directors.
II. Player Selection
- Player selection and assignment of players to teams shall be in accordance with the directives of the Board of Directors.
- Teams will consist of not more than 13 players and 1 goaltender with the breakdown of 9 forwards and 4 defensemen.
- The Director of Player Personnel (DPP) will assign a substitute (sub-player) from the waiting list when a vacancy on a team is created. For a vacancy to occur, a veteran player must be absent for a minimum of four weeks.
- If the regular team goalie is going to be absent or not present at game time, a substitute goalie may be used by following the steps listed:
- Call DPP and request a sub goalie
- Notify opposing team representative of goalie change at game time.
- Use first available goalie if DPP cannot get a sub goalie, or try to contact one of the previous or next game goalies.
III. Selection of Board of Directors
- The Board of Directors consists of a representative for each team in the league. These individuals will be elected by the general membership for a two-year term. One-half of the Board of Directors positions are elected annually. There are no Term Limits, as long as the Board member is voted in by the general membership.
- The Board of Directors will elect a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director of Player Personnel annually. One Board member may carry out the duties/responsibilities of more than one position, if necessary.
ADRIAN OVER THIRTY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Each Board member, except the President, will be assigned to represent (captain) his team, and will be in charge of his respective team.
- The President will be an additional board member and does not represent a team. The President is elected by the Board of Directors and must be a current board member.
- All board members have their ice fees waived.
- The Treasurer, Director of Player Personnel and Secretary position will receive monetary compensation annually, the amount to be determined by the Board of Directors.
IV. Required Equipment
- Hockey Skates
- Hockey shin guards – worn inside of hockey socks (except goalies)
- Hockey pants
- Hockey gloves
- Protective cup
- Elbow pads – worn under hockey jersey
- Hockey helmet
- Any player not wearing all the above protective equipment shall not be allowed on the ice during scheduled League games.
- If any portion of a player’s protective equipment becomes damaged during the game it shall be left to the referees’ discretion whether that player may complete the game.
- All players must wear their assigned team jersey. If a player forgets or brings the wrong jersey, he may wear the goalies, jersey. Only the goalie may play without wearing the team’s jersey. Exceptions to this rule may be agreed upon by both the team representative, and must be presented to the referees.
- Jerseys and socks must be turned in to the respective team captain at the end of the season. If a player loses his jersey, or fails to return his jersey and socks due to theft or any other reason, he must pay the league a replacement fee of $50 per jersey and $10 per socks.
V. Regular Season Schedule and Starting Times
- The President shall determine and publish a schedule of dates and starting times prior to the beginning of the season. Each team representative will provide copies of the schedule to his players.
- The scheduling of off-ice activities shall be determined by the Board.
- All games must be started on time and completed in 1 hour and 5 minutes.
- If a team has less than six (6) eligible players at game time, the game shall be declared a forfeit with the score recorded as 1-0.
VI. AOTHA Amendments to the USA Hockey Rules
(All A.O.T.H.A. League Games shall be governed by U.S.A. Hockey Official Rules except as amended herein)
- NO BODY CHECKING: If the referee determines the check to be deliberate, it shall be called a minor penalty.
- NO SLAP SHOTS: If a puck is struck as a result of the player’s stick blade starting above the top of the player’s boot, as observed by the referee, play shall be stopped by the referee’s whistle. The ensuing face off will be in the offending team’s defensive zone, similar to an icing.
- AUTOMATIC ICING: Icing will be called when the puck is released by a player before he reaches his own blue line, and the puck crosses over the opposing goal line, without the defending team having a chance to play it before it reaches the goal line. Note: the center red line is not-in-play for all AOTHA games.
- OFF SIDES: The center red line is out-of-play for two-line passes.
- PENALTIES:
- Any player receiving three (3) MINOR penalties during the course of a single game, will be disqualified from playing the remainder of a single game, and will be suspended from playing the next game.
- Any player receiving (3) MINOR penalties during the course of a single game for a second time in the same season, will be disqualified from playing the remainder of that game, and will be suspended from playing the next two (2) games.
- One MAJOR penalty has the same effect as three MINOR penalties in the same game.
- If a player receives more than three penalties in one game, he will be given an additional game suspension for each penalty above three. Ex: tripping, slashing, roughing and 10 min. misconduct. A double-minor penalty is counted as two penalties.
- Any player receiving three (3) penalties during the course of a single game for a third time in the same season will be disqualified from playing the remainder of that game and will be suspended from playing the next four (4) games. In addition, that player’s status in the League will be subject to review by the Board of Directors. If the same player has repeated multiple-penalty games in one season, he will be required to appear before the Board of Directors for personal review.
- Coincidental Penalties: Both teams replace the penalized player with one from the bench, continuing with the same number of players as before the penalties were called. The penalized players may return to the ice upon the first stoppage of play AFTER their penalties have expired.
- A player serving a minor penalty may return to the ice if a goal is scored against his team.
- Any player who receives a game misconduct, or rejection for any reason, will be suspended from playing the next game.
- The referee shall notify the scorer of the ejection.
- Any player receiving a SPEARING, BUT T ENDING, or any DELIVERATE ACT OF INJURE penalty, is subject to review by the Board of Directors.
- Any protest of a referee’s rule interpretations must be filed with the team representative.
- TIME CLOCK: Ice time for each game shall begin with a three (3) minute warm-up period on the clock. The regulation time shall consist of three (3) thirteen (13) minute stop-time periods, with a one-minute rest after the first and second periods. Running-time will only be used during the last few minutes, in order to keep the ice time at 65 minutes. If it appears toward the end of the third period, that the 65 minutes may expire before the game is completed using stop-time, the team captains, referees, and scorer should meet to determine whether running-time should be utilized. Each team is allowed ONE 30 second time-out during the game.
- When changing players, except after a stop in play, both the player leaving the ice and the player entering the ice must be at the boards.
- If a referee stops play for an injured player, that player must leave the ice.
- The Board of Directors shall have the authority to suspend any player if it determines that the offending player’s conduct warrants such action.
- All unserved game suspensions will carry over to the next season.
VII. Board Members/Team Reps. Responsibility
- Distributes jerseys and socks to each player on his team.
- Collects all ice fees (payable to AOTHA by check or money order, No Cash) from the players, including substitutes. Submits checks to Treasurer at next Board Meeting.
- Attempts to utilize all players during the game, as fairly as possible.
- Home team representative: fills out score sheet first and provides it to visiting team representative before start of game. Then provides complete score sheet to scorer.
- Wears captain’s “C” on jersey, for purposes of contact with referees.
- Ensures that suspended players do not participate in game.
- Collects all jerseys and socks at the end of season, or at termination of player’s participation in the league, for any reason. Launders all jerseys and socks at the end of season.
VIII. Ice Fees
- All players’ ice fees shall be paid by the dates noted on the schedule, by check or money order (No Cash), payable to AOTHA. Players that do not pay prior to the game that the ice bill due date will be ineligible to play until all outstanding dues are paid.
- Should a team win with an ineligible player, the win will be taken away resulting in a loss. In all such cases the ineligible player and Board Representative of the team will be suspended from the following game.
- A player’s prolonged absence due to injury, personal business, or games suspensions does not relieve him from his responsibility to pay ice fees.
- Substitute players will be charged the same weekly ice fees as veteran players. IN case of foreseen absences of veterans for a period of four weeks or more, two-thirds (2/3) of the substitute player’s ice fees will be credited to the veteran’s account.
- Monthly dues will be determined by the Board of Directors to be sufficient to balance the budget.
IX. Injuries
- The A.O.T.H.A and/or the Adrian College shall not be liable, or responsible in any way, for injuries incurred by players while in route to the Arrington Ice Arena, during any participation in League games at the Arrington Ice Arena, or while in route from the Arrington Ice Arena after a League game. Nor shall the A.O.T.H.A. and/or Adrian College be liable, or responsible in any way, for accidents that may occur in the Arrington Ice Arena and/or the adjacent parking lots.
- Any veteran player who knows ahead of time that he will miss four (4) or more consecutive games must notify his team representative, who will then notify the Director of Player Personnel. The DPP will assign a substitute/replacement player for a minimum of four games. The veteran player will notify his team representative one week prior to end of his absence, whether he wishes to continue participation in the League. IF the proper registration fee is paid by the injured veteran player, his veteran status in the League is secure for the current and next season. If, however, the veteran player advises the team representative that he does not wish to return, the substitute player may be offered the veteran players position in the League, as voted upon by the Board of Directors at the next regular Board Meeting. Substitute/Replacement players will be guaranteed a minimum of four (4) games before returning to the substitute list.
- Each team’s roster shall be frozen two games prior to the start of Play-offs. No substitute players shall be utilized, except for an injured goalie.
X. Absenteeism
A. Any player that is absent from three (3) consecutive League games, without notifying his team representative, shall be considered to have voluntarily quit the League, thereby forfeiting his veteran status. Such a player will be replaced by a similarly ranked substitute/replacement player will be evaluated during those games, and if, after three
games, he expresses interest in becoming a full-time member in the League, his status
will be voted upon by the Board of Directors at this next regular meeting.
XI. Registration Fee
- Each player shall pay the Registration Fee before participation in the upcoming season. This fee shall secure the player’s veteran position in the League.
- The Board of Directors shall determine the Registration Fee.
- The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director of Player Personnel are exempt from the registration fee.
XII. Officers’ Duties
Requests and presides over all Board/League meetings.
Arranges all ice times
Publishes league schedules
Arranges for referees and off-ice officials
Arranges for team pictures
Forms committees and assignments for committees
Approves expenditures for League uniforms, equipment, and supplies
Signs all checks for expenditures, with Treasurer as co-signer
In the absence of the President, perform duties of the President and perform other duties assigned to him by the President or Board of Directors.
Draft minutes at Board of Directors’ meetings
Maintain/publish weekly team standings and individual statistics
Publish League Rules for each veteran player. Re-publish when amended.
Maintain/publish articles on back of stat. sheet
Register players with USA Hockey; League with MAHA
Collect all registration and ice fees from team representatives
Post all ice fee revenue to players’ accounts
Maintain and reconcile bank business checking account
Pay all bills incurred and approved by the President, and co-signs check with President
- Director of Player Personnel
Establish league tryouts and maintain rates Sub list
Formulate the rated players and record drafted teams
Secure all replacement for players, including sub-goalies
Waiver of Liability
The A.O.T.H.A. and/or the Adrian College shall not be liable, or responsible in any way, for injuries incurred by players while in route to the Arrington Ice Arena, during any participation in AOTHA League games at the Arrington Ice Arena, or while in route from the Arrington Ice Arena after an AOTHA League game. Nor shall the A.O.T.H.A. and/or Adrian College be liable, or responsible in any way, for accidents that may occur in the Arrington Ice Arena and/or the adjacent parking lots.

Amendments to League Rules for the 2011/2012 Season
II. Player Selection
Amendment #1 - Starting the 2011/2012 season:
Teams will consist of not more than 11 players and 1 goal tender with the breakdown of 4 Defensemen and 7 Forwards.
V. Regular Season Schedule and Starting Times
Amendment #2 – Starting 2011/2012 season:
All games to be completed in a 1 hour time slot to allow for 8 team league.
VI. AOTHA Amendments to the USA Hockey Rules
Amendment #3 - Starting 2011/2012 season:
L: TIME CLOCK : Ice time for each game shall begin with a (3) minute warm up period on the clock. Regulation time shall consist of (2) Two Twenty One (21) minute running time periods. If within 2 goals the last the last (3) minutes of the 3rd period will be stopped time. Teams do not switch ends between periods. No time outs are permitted during the regular season.
Q: Fighting Penalty- Any fighting penalty shall result in an automatic game disqualification for the remainder of that game and the next one. If a player should receive a 2nd fighting game disqualification he will be suspended for the next (2) two games plus the remainder of the existing game. He will also be subject of a Board Review to determine if he would be allowed back into the league. That player would also forfeit any money he has paid into the league.
Note: An on ice fight can be called by the referee for throwing a punch or dropping of gloves with intent to throw a punch.
Any off ice incident is subject to a board review. Players will be suspended until the next board meeting.
XI. Registration Fee
Amendment #4 – Starting 2011/2012 season:
The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of player personal, Team Reps., and Web Site Coordinator are exempt from paying registration fees. All of these are considered board members.
XII. Officers’ Duties
Amendment #5 - Starting the 2011/2012 season:

Work with Secretary / Statistician to publish all League Statistics on AOTHA web site.
G: Team Reps.
Pass out Team Jerseys/ Socks and collect them at the end of the season. Collect fees from players and pass on to treasurer, as well as keeping his own teams financial records.
